MS or fibromyalgia?

Hi everyone, I’m in the middle of trying to get a diagnosis for what’s been going on with me the past few months. My dr has been hopeless, thinks it could be fibromyalgia but “not sure” but I’m starting to suspect it could be MS and looking to arrange a neurologist.

My symptoms are-

- Fatigue!
-Pain (all over, aches, shooting pains, muscle spasms, nerve)
- Tingling and numbness in my arms and legs, sometimes my face
- Feeling unsteady, difficult to walk with heavy legs and numbness below the knee
- Freezing cold feet
- Muscle stiffness
- Brain fog, struggle sometimes to finish a sentence because can’t find the word

Does this sound familiar with anyone when they got diagnosed? My eyes have been tested and they’re ok.

Thanks,
Hayley

  1. Hi and welcome, ! I am sorry you have been dealing with all of these symptoms and that you are still seeking a diagnosis. I think getting that referral for a neurologist is a smart idea and I hope the neurologist can give you some clear answers. I wanted to share some information that you may have already found here. Here's some information on the tools a neurologist may use when checking for MS -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/tools-your-doctor-will-use-to-make-a-diagnosis. Also, there are a number of conditions that share some symptom overlap with MS (like fibromyalgia) that a doctor will want to rule out -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions.

Some of your symptoms could be MS or something else entirely, and I hope the neurologist can help you get a firm diagnosis! And I hope you get some helpful feedback from other community members. If I could suggest anything, I would kindly push your doctor for that referral (especially if your insurance requires it). Hang in there and please keep us posted, if you feel comfortable doing so!
