Wow, were to start! Back in November I was informed by my employer that as of the end of December he was dropping our health insurance. Supposedly, with the ACA, insurance would be better and cheaper! My previous policy was $955.00 a month for family coverage. My deductible was $1500.00 out-of-pocket,then 20/80. With assistance from the drug company for co-pay and infusion costs, last year after O-O-P I payed $1,100.00 Sweet Deal!!!
So, back in Nov. signed up on Ins Marketplace, talked with an ins broker, was advised of the
best family plan for my needs. The plan was $733.00 a month for three people with a $7000.00 out-of-pocket before ins covered anything!Ouch! At the time I was still married, figured we could cover it. End of December, was separated and filed for divorce. I contacted the market place and Ins Co. in an attempt to change/modify my plan to a single person with $3500.00 O-O-P. Ins co said they could not change, had to go through Marketplace. Contacted them around Jan 19th,was told could not modify until after my "change of life" event. I tried explaining that it was now a financial hardship, that I could not pay it and all my obligations! Did not matter, I have called many times, and then I received a letter 3 weeks ago that my policy was cancelled!! Apparently in one of the calls I mentioned that I might cancel my policy, well they thought I wanted it canceled so they did! Finally, after talking to a friend that works at a call center, she had a supervisor look at my case, he put in for a medical emergency and less than 72 hrs a HHS rep called me, finally! She could not reinstate my old policy because someone deleted it! Had to reapply, said they can make it effective Feb 1st. Have a call into their oversite dept. May be on the hook for a total of $8800.00 O-O-P, $5300.00 for Dec services and if retroactive to Feb 1, only $3500. of another $5300.00 bill! Have yet to find any other type of assistance,if you know of any e-mail me at gmcp1961@yahoo.com. So Screwed by Marketplace.
