Not diagnosed worries about numbness

Hello I a few years ago I had some episodes of numbness mainly when I'm sleeping. It lasted a few weeks mostly in my arms, feet and face. It was bad enough at some points some places of my body felt painful for a few days but it eventually all went away on it's own.

Now it is back again and I have numb patches and tingling during the day.(feet, forearms, cheeks) I had gotten blood tests now and in the past and they came back all relatively normal like blood sugar. I am also experiencing some slight eye pain now for about a week now. I wouldn't say I'm experiencing anything notable besides that. I would appreciate any advice or theories you have

  1. Hi, ! I am glad you reached out here. I know the symptoms you are experiencing must be pretty annoying and disconcerting to deal with. While numbness can be a symptom of MS, a doctor will want to rule out a number of other conditions before making a diagnosis of MS. You can read about those conditions here -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/ruling-out-other-health-conditions. Also, MS is diagnosed with a variety of tests, so bloodwork alone wouldn't catch MS. Here's some information on those tests -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/diagnosis/tools-your-doctor-will-use-to-make-a-diagnosis. A doctor may not utilize all of the tests discussed in the article, but he/she will definitely use more than just bloodwork. You can talk to your doctor about pursuing more testing.

I don't want to hazard a guess as to what you are experiencing, as I don't know your medical history and it wouldn't be wise to offer medical diagnosis or opinion based on your post. But, I do hope you pursue getting answers! You deserve to know what's going on. Numbness can be caused by any number of things, from the innocuous (sleeping in a weird position) to something more serious (blood pressure issues, MS, etc). And your doctor should be willing to help you find out the cause of your issues.
