Uncharted Waters
I'm a Wife and a Mom with two young boys. I own a local catering business and recently made the difficult decision to retire my food truck since my diagnosis of RRMS.
No stranger to overcoming obstacles
I have osteoarthritis as well so joint pain has added to daily challenges, but I am also a cancer survivor and endured 16 surgeries in the past 24 years so overcoming obstacles is nothing new to me. I think it is important to take it one day at a time, and not overwhelm my mind with uncertainty.
Journey to diagnosis
This MS journey started with odd symptoms over recent years including spasticity, balance issues and ongoing, pestering neuropathy. Waking up one morning with a corneal ulcer was quite shocking though; the root cause of that lead down the path of an autoimmune condition when all other causes were ruled out. It wasn't until a virus last year that brought on what I now know was a flare up of brain fog, extreme fatigue, and cognitive issues that lasted for a couple of months. Shortly after a brain MRI confirmed the existence of MS.
Finally having clarity
Reflecting back, it seems like a mess. Honestly, getting a diagnosis was clarity in the midst of a storm rather than fear. But, being in uncharted waters of MS I've learned to take it one day at a time, and give my self grace on days I'm experiencing something new; and when I'm having a bad day, I rest in prayer and absorb the love of my boys and family!
Support from community
As my MS story continues, it has been a comfort to talk to those who have lived with it, and who understand what I’m going through so I can continue to grow and learn on this journey. We don’t have to do this alone!
