Corona vs MS (Isolation)
COVID-19 VS Autoimmune
I would love to say that 'I am loving the noise of the silence!!!'
Fighting this unexpected evil
In the last few days during the lockdown, I'm observing the people's and world's perspective. It is a scary situation we all are going through and also a big salute worldwide for holding hands virtually and collectively for responding and fighting this unexpected evil. The world is taken by this corona storm. Today we have the entire world looking out for a cure for this epidemic, the life-threatening beast, and every country is doing their best to bring an end to this tsunami. The survival instinct of humanity has kicked in, all petty issues of religion and politics are set aside. I only realised how people are so chaotic (of course it's the need of the hour) of this looming threat.
A few days of lockdown has given a glimpse of what a majority of autoimmune patients have endured during their relapsing and remitting episodes of disease, forcing them to painful and longer periods of lockdown.
What is COVID-19
I AM SURE WE KNOW WHAT IS COVID-19 BY NOW.
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently and not touching your face. Thus the distancing and lockdown.
Autoimmune disease
WHAT IS AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER
An autoimmune disorder is a condition in which your immune system attacks your own body. The immune system normally guards against germs like bacteria and viruses. When it senses these foreign invaders, it sends out an army of fighter cells to attack them. Normally, the immune system can tell the difference between foreign cells and your own cells. In an autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakes part of your body — like your joints or skin — as foreign. It releases proteins called autoantibodies that attack healthy cells. Some autoimmune diseases target only one organ and at times more than 1.
How we are dealing with this lockdown
I thought this was a good time to write a few lines on how we are dealing with this lockdown.
For me and many more like me, the lockdown is not new, we're forced underground with every relapse for an uncertain amount of days. Our days are lonely, full of pain, despair and many times devoid of hope. Simple diagnosis and acknowledgement not available from medical practitioners. The precautionary corona lockdown is more manageable, at least most of you are not sick, you've the entire family around, you manage time by taking up household chores, watching Netflix, some would say internal cleansing, barring some unfortunate ones, most of you will escape with a flu, yet the world is spooked.
This is what we go through every day
This write-up is for all those caretakers of people like us, take this experience and reverse the tables. Look at it from our point of view. We are not understood, we at times do not know what's happening, our brain does not support us at times. This, what the world is facing is what we go through every day and most often deal with it alone. This epidemic is an eye-opener to every person in the world to know there is a huge population out there suffering every day with no help that can be administered. Many of us are under a lockdown since years, some since a while. We don't need sympathy we want people to understand.
Applausing my autoimmune friends
A big applause to all my autoimmune friends who are fighting this each day of their lives, each one giving strength and motivation to each other. We will not let autoimmune disorders or Covid-19 win. We shall prevail.
Today the world is threatened by the epidemic which I am sure will be conquered soon but we are still in lookout for some healing and HOPE is the only thing we have in our control. We live by it every single day.
We want a normal life too
Every single day is a lock down for many. We also want to be like all of you, overcoming our disorders, work and have a normal life. It's time for all of you out there to know our invisible, at times undiagnosed pain and undescribable symptoms feeling hopeless at times.
We pull ourselves up each ay for a new battle.
Let MS now stand for MY STRENGTH.
