Others don’t understand

My husband I think is still in denial and he avoids me when he is home he sits in front of the tv and plays a stupid war game I have to call him on his cell phone in order to talk to him I had to hire a caretaker to help me when she’s not here I have to call him for help and he acts like it’s such a pain to take him away from his game We used to be best friends and now we don’t even talk how do I get him to understand I miss him so much he still tells me he loves me but usually after I say I love him

  1. I am so very sorry this is happening, Itsygirl01. Some family members have trouble grasping just how life changing a diagnosis of MS can be for someone they love. He may be going through his own stages of denial and grief. While this article is directed to the individual with MS, I thought you might find it an interesting read -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/diagnosis-acceptance/.

Unfortunately, many of our members can relate to what you are going through. It's really hard for people without MS to grasp what it is like for you. This piece gives some good information for getting the support you need when you can't get it at home -- https://multiplesclerosis.net/living-with-ms/what-to-do-when-loved-ones-dont-understand/.

Hopefully, your husband will come around. You can also show him various articles from our site or other reputable sites (like the National Multiple Sclerosis Society -- https://www.nationalmssociety.org/) to help him learn about MS.

Please know you are not alone in this. I am so sorry you are both grieving and adjusting in different ways. I sincerely hope you are able to come together and work as a team and a couple again.

    Thank you for reaching out.

    Best, Erin, MultipleSclerosis.net Team Member.
