Older adults diagnosis

I am 66 was screen 20 yrs ago for ms. Inconclusive diagnosis given told to go home and when I can not get out of bed come back. Well now I am having extreme itching mostly in hands and feet. Sometimes over different hit spots on body. Very painful muscle cramps to the point of years and can not walk.that happen even during exercising, walking. Hot flashing, way past menopause, sometimes feels like a fever. Has been happening for years, but at the point I am having trouble functioning. My question is can they still diagnosis me at this age???

  1. Hi . You certainly can be diagnosed and treated at your age and if you see a doctor who tells you otherwise, find a new one. Many people are not diagnosed until later in life because they didn't recognize their past symptoms as MS-related previously. My father was diagnosed in his 60s, but his doctor looked at his medical history and determined the onset was actually about 30 years prior. Medical agism is real, so you might have to advocate for yourself both in getting a referral to a neurologist and in getting the treatment you need and deserve if you are diagnosed with MS. Know we are here for you whenever you need support or a safe place to vent. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. OMG thank you so very much, my daughter has MS and we have felt all along I may have a mild case. So yes I will check into it. So nice

      1. Hi . Can you possibly see your daughter's neurologist? Keep us posted if you are comfortable doing so. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
