My insurance won't fully cover my meds anymore

Having trouble getting my medication insurance doesn’t want to pay for my Tecfidera anymore so they sent me a list of what they do cover and me and my doctor picked out vumerity and it has a $397.00 co pay I can’t afford that Anyone else have any ideas

  1. I am sorry you are in this situation, ! I hate when people have to deal with these insurance issues!

First, I know it may be too late for this, but your doctor may be able to file an appeal on your behalf and explain why Tecfidera is the best medication for you. Sometimes, that works.

Secondly, would you qualify for a co-pay assistance program, or have you automatically been rejected? The company that makes Vumerity (Biogen) does have a copay assistance program that people with insurance can apply for, so you may want to see if you qualify -- https://www.biogencopayprogram.com and https://www.vumerity.com/en_us/home/biogen-support-services/financial-support.. Also, there is an organization that provides assistance for people needing financial help paying for treatments, medications, and transportation to appointments. They may be able to help -- https://www.panfoundation.org. I hope this information is helpful for you and that one of these programs is able to help offset the cost of treatment.

    1. This may be way off, but have you considered such effective remedies as Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)?

      1. Hi. The MRI's following the start of using LDN 3-4mg showed no new lesions. You can lower or raise the dose if observant. I keep notes. No obvious exacerbations have occurred over many years, whereas before it seemed like 3 a year. It must be compounded by recommended pharmacies to prevent any fluctuations at so small a dose. It works on the basis of equilibrating the immune system.

      2. thanks so much for sharing the results of your experience. It's really encouraging to hear that you've achieved such positive outcomes!

    2. Ok, I had this issue where Biogen wasn't paying for my Tecfidera anymore and I had to pay it myself. I told my doctor and we switched from Biogen and went to Carelon mail-in pharmacy, who sends me the generic Tecfidera called Dimethyl Fumarate and asked for assistance on that. I now pay $15 a month and you don't get pressed on it if you can't pay then and there. Your bill just ads up by $15 or whatever they charge you. Hope this helps.

      1. thanks so much for sharing your experience and how you've been able to find a workaround for managing the cost of care. Every recommendation and creative "workaround" is always helpful to share here!
