Burning tongue

I can no longer eat anything that is the slightest bit spicy hot. My tongue burns. I used to be able to eat pizza with pepperoni and other spicy foods like Chinese drunken noodles. I was told that a zinc supplement might help but it has not. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how they dealt with it.

  1. Hi, ! I tried to reply yesterday, but my comment must have been eaten by tech gremlins or something!

Anyway, I know dealing with tongue and taste issues isn't all that uncommon with MS, though I did not find a story similar to yours in this community. Changes in taste can also be a side effect of medications, so you may want to check to see if any medications you are on list changes in taste as a potential side effect. Also, if you have an upcoming dental exam, you may want to make sure your dentist does a full mouth screening for oral cancers. I am not saying in any way that you are dealing with that, but it's always good to cover all your bases, just to be safe.

Unfortunately, I did not come across any great tips for combating this issue. I know it's frustrating when your senses are impacted by MS (or something else). Like, living with MS is hard enough; why does it have to take away the foods you enjoy too?

That said, I know you are not the only member of this community dealing with oral/taste issues. I hope this symptom goes away as quickly as it came and that you are able to enjoy pepperoni pizza and spicy foods again!
